Exhibition 'In Ecstasy' in Museum PARCUM

How far will you go in your search for an experience that lifts you out of everyday reality? In the exhibition ‘In Ecstasy,’ PARCUM and KADOC explore 700 years of mystical experiences and draw parallels to our contemporary culture.

How far are you willing to go in your search for the ultimate experience? Do you dare to completely detach from reality and step outside of yourself? The pursuit of ecstasy has a long history and appears in many cultures, including within the Catholic tradition. Since the 13th century, mystics have sought ways to fully immerse themselves in their love for God. How does this quest for the ‘unio mystica’ relate to our modern culture? Are there similarities, or are they worlds apart? Through meditation, yoga, mass events, or external aids, we often try to forget the world around us in an attempt to escape the present moment.

In this exhibition, PARCUM and KADOC delve into 700 years of mystical experiences and draw parallels to today. Can we learn something from these mystics, and do our modern practices lead to the same experience? 'In Ecstasy' reveals new perspectives on ecstasy by juxtaposing religious heritage and contemporary art.
