Accessibility

An abbey site that welcomes everyone!

Cloakroom, lockers and toilets

You can safely leave coats and other personal belongings in our cloakroom. Large bags and backpacks are not allowed in the museum. Use the free lockers on floor -2.
Visitor’s toilets can be found in various places in the museum.

In the visitor’s brochure, there is a floor plan of the museum, indicating all the practical facilities.

Parking

At Park Abbey, free parking is possible for a short period of time (four hours with a parking card). If the Park Abbey car park is full, you can use the underground paid parking facility at the Philipssite (a three minute drive from Park Abbey).

Do you have a parking card for people with a disability? Then you can park at the entrance to the museum. Persons with restricted mobility can have their driver take them right to the reception of Park Abbey and PARCUM.

Infrastructure for visitors with restricted mobility

The abbey domain

The access road to the reception of Park Abbey and PARCUM runs via the central courtyard (the Neerhof). This road is paved with cobblestones, with flat concrete strips on both sides.

A slightly inclining cobblestone road leads you via the cemetery to the reception and entrance to the museum. If you come on your own, we are happy to assist you up this slope. On arrival, call 016 27 44 80.

The footpath around the ponds is wheelchair-friendly.

Facilities

Resting for a moment: With a museum chair you can take a break wherever and when you want to. It is available at the reception. Wooden benches are also available in the various rooms and spaces.

Sanitary facilities: There are two wheelchair-accessible toilets (floor -1 museum PARCUM and on the ground floor by the tithe barn). So a suitable toilet is always close by.

Lift: The entrance to the museum is accessible for wheelchair users via an outdoor lift. All floors in the museum are accessible by lift, with the exception of the monastery library and the abbot’s residence. There are small and large level differences throughout the museum, but our reception staff are always ready to assist you.

Please note that some door openings are not wide enough for larger electric wheelchairs. Contact us in advance for any assistance and more information.

Digital visit with virtual reality headset

The monastery library and the abbot’s residence are unfortunately not accessible by lift: to enter them, a few stairs have to be taken. Visitors with restricted mobility can use a virtual reality headset to explore the historical spaces while listening to audio fragments. The use of the VR headset is included in the admission price.

Visit Park Abbey at a lower price

If you bring a companion as a visitor with restricted mobility, your companion gets free access to the museum. You yourself benefit from a discount price of €10. If you are entitled to a special rate (e.g. Uitpas), you only pay €2 for a visit.

Infrastructure families with children

Park Abbey captivates both young and old. We have developed a number of family trails, such as ‘On a scavenger hunt with Norrie’ (6 to 12 years)* and ‘Bert tells…’ (8 to 12 years)*. During the holiday periods, we often organise extra activities, which you can find on our calendar.

*Please note: the family trails are only available in Dutch

Buggies and backpacks

Buggies are not allowed in the rooms. A baby carrier is recommended for visits with young children. For older children, there are benches in the museum and folding stools can be borrowed.

Changing mat

The toilets on level -1 have a changing mat.

Breast-feeding

Are you looking for a quiet place to breastfeed? Talk to one of our reception staff. They will be happy to accompany you to a quiet and private space.
